Amid an intense heatwave sweeping across Dhaka, temperatures have been rising continuously, making daily life increasingly difficult for people across the country. The situation has been especially challenging for day laborers and rickshaw pullers who continue to work outdoors under the scorching sun to earn their livelihood.
On April 26, 2024, at several key locations in the capital including Agargaon, Shyamoli, and Dhanmondi, Wellbeing Foundation in collaboration with JCI Dhaka Diplomats carried out a humanitarian distribution campaign. The initiative aimed to ease the suffering of those affected by the extreme heat.
As part of the campaign, nearly 2,000 rickshaw pullers, day laborers, and pedestrians were provided with clean drinking water and oral saline. In addition, awareness leaflets were distributed to educate the public on preventive measures against heatstroke.
The program was attended by key representatives from both organizations. From Wellbeing Foundation, Chief Coordinator Md. Rajikul Hasan, Coordinators Md. Rakib Hasan Avi and Golam Mabud were present. Representing JCI Dhaka Diplomats were Local President Arafat Kabir and member Samia Rahman.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, stating that such thoughtful initiatives are rare. They appreciated the effort of Wellbeing Foundation and JCI Dhaka Diplomats for standing by them during such extreme weather conditions.
This initiative reflects a strong commitment to community welfare, aiming to provide immediate relief while raising awareness about health risks during heatwaves.
